Personal Political Philosophy

My “must read” title for college students seeking to understand something about this election: A Peoples History of the United States by Howard Zinn

My approach to or philosophy of American politics and elections: “Departmental” by Robert Frost

The four (4) people (living or deceased) I would invite to dinner for the purpose of better understanding American political life are: Ari Berman, Bill Clinton, Howard Zinn, Sonia Sotomayor

Wake the Vote Experience

My most memorable Wake the Vote experience so far: Sometime about seeing the caucus in Iowa. This being our first trip together as a cohort and the fact being I was a nervous first year student meant we didn’t have the family dynamic I feel like the Wake the Vote cohort has now. However, I have this very detailed memory of being in the crowd at the caucus site talking to the organizer of it and getting to stand on the stage as they did the process of caucusing was just magical? I was still in shock that first year David Ajamy was in Iowa with Melissa Harris Perry seeing the political world first handed that I was raised on. Just like I have vivid memories of watching the news in 2012 when Obama was running, I have the vivid memories of actually being at the “news” and in the real political world of elections because of Wake the Vote.

Bernin’ Up in New Hampshire

“Bernie Sanders is the only candidate to send volunteers to campaign for him into the projects.” As my friend Grace and I treaded through the snowy, hilly streets of Manchester, New Hampshire, we came across this middle-aged woman who had just returned from her...

Inside the Political World of Iowa

First day on the Iowa political trail and I am already exhausted. I woke up around seven and by eight or so we were out to go work for Ben Carson. But to Nick, Sebastian, and my surprise their building was locked and no one was seen. After that we decided to go...
